PRIVACY POLICY
The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) respects the privacy of its members and customers. We believe that for electronic communication and online activities to be successful, our customers must be assured that the information provided is used responsibly and appropriately.
Therefore, the organization has implemented the following policy to guide the use of AATSP members’ and customers’ personal information.
Please note that this policy does not apply to third-party websites, and AATSP is not responsible for the content of such third-party websites or the privacy practices of such third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third parties before disclosing your information to such parties or visiting such websites.
While AATSP is incorporated and headquartered in the United States, it may collect and process data of individuals residing in the European Union, and those activities may be subject to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To the extent that is the case, this privacy notice shall apply to such personal data.
PERSONAL DATA COLLECTED
Personal data collected by AATSP generally includes an individual’s name, home and/or institution address, phone number, fax number, and email address. It may also include date of birth, certain demographic information, and, in the case of financial transactions, credit card and billing address information.
Technical information like user IP addresses, operating system, and websites visited before and after the AATSP website may also be collected by AATSP and/or AATSP’s service providers. This type of information does not identify the user personally.
The AATSP also collects personal information from minors, with parental consent, such as names, date of birth, grade level, address, and phone numbers.
PERSONAL DATA AUTOMATICALLY COLLECTED
Additionally, AATSP may use cookies and conversion pixels to track how our website and other online services are used and to personalize the user experience. Users are free to disable cookies in their browser’s settings but, keep in mind, that choosing to do so could lead to a degraded user experience.
We employ the use of third-party analytics tools to measure web traffic and usage. This type of information does not identify the user personally.
HOW PERSONAL DATA IS COLLECTED
AATSP collects personal data under various circumstances. Most common are when an individual:

Joins AATSP or renews his or her membership;

Updates his or her online member profile;

Registers for the Annual Conference or similar in-person event;

Registers for a virtual learning module, webinar or other online offerings;

Downloads information from the AATSP website and/or one of its programs’ websites;

Purchases a publication, product or service;

Participates in the AATSP Online Community;

Applies for an AATSO scholarship or award;

Participates in an AATSP-sponsored program such as SHH, SHA and poster contests.
HOW PERSONAL DATA IS PROCESSED
Personal data of individuals may be used for several purposes. Among them are:

Membership administration, including billing and fee collection;

Provision of member benefits;

Delivery of products and services;

Management of subscriptions;

Communication of AATSP events, products, services, offerings, benefits and opportunities;

Direct marketing;

Member and customer data analysis;

Development of directories; and
-
Product and services customization and development.
LEGAL BASIS FOR COLLECTING AND PROCESSING PERSONAL DATA
There are several legal bases for AATSP’s collection and processing of personal data:

For the legitimate interests of AATSP, including the several uses listed above;

Based on consent; and

Legal compliance.
THIRD PARTIES WITH WHICH PERSONAL DATA MAY BE SHARED IF MEMBER ALLOWS
If the members check "Yes" for Permission to Share, then the AATSP may share personal data with several other parties. These include:
· Sponsors of AATSP activities;
· Exhibitors at AATSP’s Annual Conference;
· Publishers of AATSP publications;
· Educational service providers who perform functions such as marketing, research, shipping and
fulfillment; and
· Vendors and advertiser partners related to our mission.
SITE OF PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA
Personal data of individuals collected by AATSP may be stored and processed in the United States, Europe, or any other country in which AATSP, its vendors, or partners maintain facilities. AATSP generally collects and processes personal data in the US. In the event personal data is collected in the EU and is then transferred to the US or is transferred to any other country outside of the EU, AATSP will do so because there is a legal reason, such as to perform a contract, or to achieve a legitimate interest of the organization.
DATA RETENTION
Personal data may be retained by AATSP for so long as necessary or useful to pursue the legitimate interests of AATSP. Other factors may include: the duration of the business or contractual relationship between AATSP and an individual; archiving of historical information; and legal requirements, including limitations periods during which a legal claim might be brought.
SAFEGUARDS
AATSP has put in place reasonable technical, physical, and administrative safeguards to protect personal data. Examples of these safeguards are storing personal data in secure, offsite facilities, limiting access to personal data to those employees who need access to fulfill their responsibilities, and providing training on responsible handling of personal data.
INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS REGARDING PERSONAL DATA
Individuals generally have the right to access their own personal data and to request that AATSP correct any errors or incompleteness in their own personal data. The contact information provided below should be used for these purposes. There is also a limited right to request deletion of personal data. Such requests also should be directed to the designated contact.
Individuals may opt-out of receiving additional information about third-party products and services by checking or unchecking the appropriate boxes during and after the AATSP online account creation process.
Individuals may also unsubscribe from email communications by clicking an “unsubscribe” link present in all AATSP broadcast emails. NOTE: Unsubscribing from AATSP email communication will not stop delivery of messages critical to the administration of membership such as dues renewal notifications.
