In 2023, while participating as a sponsor of SHH in Books Between Kids, Sole Toriello had the opportunity to meet its coordinator. She was very surprised to learn that in a community like Houston, there were almost no donations of books in Spanish for children and youth.
As a SHH sponsor and responding to the fact that our societies seek to promote our Spanish language and at the same time serve, her chapter organized a Spanish book drive at the end of that year. And they only collected 40 books.
So this year they did it again! On the occasion of the celebration of International Book Day, April 23rd, her chapter not only collected books, but also created bookmarks written in Spanish with phrases that motivate reading. This initiative was supported by their school's Spanish program and the French Honor Society.
"We want to thank the entire Episcopal High School community and invite them to collect books for children and youth, written in Spanish, so that next year's book drive will hopefully double the 200 books we donated this year."
Their donation will be part of the KHOU 11 Turn the Page on Literacy campaign!
